A man from Arkansas, USA has found a 9-carat diamond, one of the biggest diamonds ever. And the man who discovered the gem, Kevin Kinard, initially thought it was just a piece of glass.

33-year-old Kevin was at the Crater Diamonds State Park when he found the stone. And the diamond turns out to be the second-largest diamond that has even been unearthed at the State Park ever since its opening in 1972. The largest diamond found in the US was the “Amarillo Starlight” weighing 16.37-carat. The diamond was discovered back in August 1975.

Arkansas is known to be the United States’ only active diamond mine.

Meanwhile, Kinard’s diamond is 9.07 carats. The gem has been called the “Kinard Friendship Diamond.” As per Arkansas State Parks, it is a tradition to name large diamonds.

It still remains uncertain as to the worth of the precious gem.

Visitors that discover diamonds or any other minerals at the site can keep them.

Kinard said when he found the diamond, he only thought that it looked shiny and interesting. So he put it in his bag. He didn’t know that it was diamond until it was confirmed by the park officials.
